Phoenix Amateur Softball Association is continuing its youth individual registration process this 2006 season. All Phoenix ASA Junior Olympic players, coaches, assistants, managers and all team staff personnel will continue to register as individuals, not as a team. The Amateur Softball Association is one of the last youth sports organizations to utilize the individual registration system.
The following Amateur Softball Associations Association are Registering their Junior Olympic teams with the Amateur Softball Association Individual registration system: Arizona, Maine, Rhode Island, Boston, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Piedmont VA., South Florida, Central Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Okalahoma, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Texas, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Michigan, Wisconsin, Detroit, Indiana Kentucky, Cincinnati, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Phoenix, Hawaii, Northern California, Southern California, Central California, Oakland, Illinois, Sacramento, San Francisco, The Greater San Joaquin, Nevada, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Portland, Seattle. And that number will increase in 2006. ASA is one of the last sports to go to an individual registration system.
NEW for 2006: In order to better protect the youth participating in Fastpitch Softball, the following policy will be implemented for all coaching / support staff registrations:
Upon registering for the 2006 season. the Rocky Mountain Region # 13, including Phoenix ASA (Amateur Softball Association), will make it mandatory that all competitive (A, B and Gold levels) youth teams run background checks on all their coaching / team staff personnel through Virtual Tournament Director. To offset the cost of the background check, all competitive / team support staff and coaches will receive only one(1) ASA Identification card from now on.
Note: (The background check is optional for recreational coaches and the cost will be an additional $4.00 per individual should recreational teams or organizations choose to do the background checks).
Keep in mind that doing back groundchecks on all coaches / team support staff will increase the time needed to process registrations. Please allow at least fifteen (15) days for registrations to be received, processed and approved by
Required items for the Background check are: Background Check Release Form, A legible copy of your Drivers License (color copy preferred) VTD registration application filled out or if prior registered edited with your complete LEGAL Birth Name: (First Middle Last ), Social Security Number, Date of Birth, Drivers License Number, State of issue, complete Address ( street name & number. City, state zip code) invoice payment. These items must be delivered with your invoice. Faxed copies of Drives Licenses do not print well enough to be used so make sure you send the copy of drives license with your invoice and background check release forms.

For the 2006 season Phoenix ASA will continue to do registration through Virtual Tournament Director including the background check of coaches and all team support staff. This is an on line process @ www.fastpitchsoftball.net. (214-331-2500) with this website process each player in the “A” and/or “B” Classifications will receive two credit card style, picture ASA Player ID Cards. This ID card provides Proof of Insurance, Proof of Age, Signature and a Photo, that is now required for Championship play. Note: Legal birth name must be on registration form.
New photos for 2006 for everyone are required-- Remember No Sunglasses, No Visors, and No Hats are to be worn by any individual for these photos. PLEASE realize that these are your official Identification for ASA. Only a HEAD SHOT photo will be accepted. Please take photos against a light colored back ground. All individuals must sign the back of each of the identification cards even if the cards are sent to the Manager / Head Coach or individual you have designated to perform this task. ONE OF THE ID CARDS MUST BE GIVEN TO THE PLAYER/PARENT as this program is INDIVIDUAL registration and the cards are NOT the property of the team regardless of who paid the registration. Note: If there has been a legal name change the proof of such change must accompany any registration. Proof of Birth will still need to be provided for the initial registration in Phoenix ASA for all players (Copy of Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Drivers License and/or Passport will work as official documentation).
The cost for 2006 for “A” and/or ‘B” Classification of individual registration is the same as 2004, 2005 $20.00 each, which includes the background check for coaches and support staff and a zero deductible secondary medical / liability insurance policy (note if the player has no insurance coverage while participating in ASA this policy will become their primary coverage). The back of the card provides information regarding insurance coverage and the number to call in case of an accident. Your choice of shipping options, FedEx or USPS fees will be provided at the time of on- line processing and paid by the team.
All registration requests must be received by the Junior Olympic Commissioner a minimum of 15 days prior to participation in any 2006 ASA events. If the required information is NOT received after 15 days from the positing date, the data will be deleted from VTD and the team must reenter the data and create a new invoice.
NEW: 2006 Junior Olympic ”Recreational” “C” Classification organizations and/or leagues will also have the option to individually register all organizational officials, Junior Olympic players, coaches, assistants, managers and ANY team staff personnel as individuals, and not as a team. This will be an on-line process @ www.fastpitchsoftball.net / 1-214-331-2500 also. In the Recreational "C" Classification the leagues doing the registration will be required to verify proof of birth. With this registration each member will receive one non-photo ASA Identification card. The cost for “Recreational teams/leagues” per individual registration is now $8.00/$0 deductible, $7.00 /$100 deductible or $6.00/ $250 deductible which includes a secondary medical insurance policy
(through Bollinger Insurance) but if you do not have any medical coverage it becomes primary. The recreational organizations also have the option of doing national background checks if they desire at an additional cost of $4.00 per individual. The processing and shipping (Fed-Ex or USPS fees will be provided at the completion of on-line processing and paid by the organization. This is a calendar year registration so organizations will not to need reregister individuals if running several seasonal leagues throughout the year.
Note: Recreational organizations / leagues have the option of registering to receive the picture Identification cards with zero deductible at the above $20.00 each plus shipping cost.
Any recreational “C” player/coach etc that elects to move to “A” or “B” classification may do so at any time after “recreational registration” for an additional cost as appropriate to reach the $20.00 upgrade. This upgrade to their ASA Registration will give them two credit card style, pictured ASA Player ID Cards. This ID card provides Proof of Insurance, Proof of Age and a Photo, that is all now required for Championship play. Birth certificates will still need to be provided for the initial registration for all class "A" and "B" players.
Once registered under the VTD system with Phoenix ASA as an “A” or “B” competition player proof of birth will no longer be required. Your VTD Identification card will be sufficient per the ASA Code Article # 501 Item # 6 Letter c page # 241 (2005 ASA Rule Book.)
Each registrant will also receive discounts on official ASA licensed merchandise. Also every coach, assistant coach, staff personnel and manager that is registered with Phoenix ASA will receive a rule and score book.
NOTE: EVERY PLAYER, COACH, MANAGER, TEAM STAFF PERSONNEL, ETC MUST BE REGISTERED with background check completed PRIOR TO PLAYING OR PRACTICING IN THE 2006 SEASON. Deadline for all registrations is received by Junior olympic Comissioner a minimum of 15 days prior to your team's ASA activity.
2006 Coaches (“A” & “B” Classification) must turn in a Championship Roster completely filled out and copies of proof of birth for all players currently on their team.
The 2006 Freeze Date is May 30th. Or 72 hours prior to any ASA National Qualifying Event which ever comes first.
NEW for 2006 you can now use the ASA-VTD electronic roster as your Official ASA Roster.
Insurance Information
Insurance coverage applies to an individually registered player playing on another team or in a non-ASA sanctioned event as follows:
Ø The coverage follows the player who plays on a team that is registered with ASA/USA Softball for the current year.
Ø The coverage follows the player if she/he goes to play on his/her own to play on an ASA/USA Softball registered team in an ASA/USA Sanctioned Tournament.
Ø The coverage follows the players on an individually registered team if the team plays in a non-ASA sanctioned event.
Ø The coverage does not apply if the player plays on a team that is not registered with the ASA.
Ø The coverage does not apply if the player goes on her/his own to play in a non-ASA sanctioned event.
Ø This coverage is not tournament or round robin sanctioning insurance to run a tournament or a round robin event.
